At SHOT 2015 we took a look at one of the Faxon ARAK-21’s on display.
The ARAK name combines AR and AK as it uses an AR lower with an AK style long-stroke piston upper.
The ARAK series has a folding side charging handle in the forward position of the handguard like the old roller-delayed H&K’s. Unlike the H&K’s it can be pulled out and moved to either side of the weapon.
I’ve had the opportunity to fire the Faxon (not the one pictured) but not enough to give an educated opinion on reliability or handling. Felt impulse seemed less than a standard 16″ AR15 but the gun was also heavier and equipped with a hefty brake. I look forward to spending more time with the weapon some time in the future.
